Xavier comes up just short at Butler
The Xavier Musketeers ended the regular season on a frustrating note on Saturday evening, losing to Butler on the road at Hinkle Fieldhouse by a score of 67-62.
The Musketeers held the lead, or were tied, for much of the game, but some clutch shooting by the Bulldogs forced Xavier's attempt to make a regular season sweep of Butler come up just a little short.
Freshman point guard Semaj Christon enjoyed another good game for Xavier, tallying 20 points with 5 assists and 2 steals, while Isaiah Philmore chipped in with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The lone other significant scorer for Xavier in the game was Erik Stenger, who had his best game of the conference season, finishing with 8 points.
The Musketeers were held to just 41% shooting, and only finished with 8 assists on the day, as the Bulldogs put together a much better defensive effort in the second meeting between the two schools.
Butler was led by the 21 points of Rotnei Clark and the 15 points of Kameron Woods in the win.
So, Xavier now finishes the regular season at 17-13, including a 9-7 record in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Musketeers will return to action next week, in Brooklyn, at the conference tournament.
